Surgery
Surgery is a last attempt to reduce excessive soft tissue in severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) with significant co-morbidities and when Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) did not provided significant results.
Types of Surgery
- Adenoids and Tonsils – younger patients with excessive tonsillar or adenoid tissues, are candidates for adenectomy and tonsillectomy.
- Palatal Implants – Also known as Pillar Procedure. Doctors inject braided strands of polyester filament into the soft palate, which stiffens it and reduces snoring.
- UPPP – Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty. Doctors tighten or trim excess tissues from the throat.
- LA UPPP – Laser Assisted Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty. Doctors use lasers to reduce excess tissues from the throat and shorten the soft palate and remove the uvula.
